Prep Your Car for Winter
With the winter months just around the corner, drivers everywhere need to start thinking about how and when to prepare their cars for the coldest time of the year. Follow these few simple tips to prep your car for the winter months, and you will be ready for just about any scenario.
Begin in November
The end of November, or beginning of December if you’re a procrastinator, is the best time to prepare for winter. It could even be a bit earlier depending where in the country you are.
Prepare a Winter Box
Prepare for the worst case scenario by putting a winter box in your car. Here are some things to include:
- Sand for traction
- A charged pre-paid cell phone for emergency calls
- Extra ice scraper
- High energy snacks
- Road flares
- First-Aid kit
Check Engine Coolant and Antifreeze
Avoid any problems with your engine this winter by simply checking the coolant and antifreeze levels. Refill if necessary.
Tire Pressure and Tread
Check the tire pressure, and replace tires if you find that there is not enough tread on them. This could cause a major headache if you’re continually getting stuck in the snow.
Winter Windshield Fluid
This kind of fluid will not freeze upon impact in the winter like normal windshield fluid does. It will make your life significantly easier.
Do the smart thing this winter, and prepare yourself for any scenario that could arise. You will thank yourself later.
